UW: Community marks commencement of work on Irrigation Dam with libation

The Chiefs and people of Glang in the Wa East district of the Upper West Region on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, performed Islamic prayers and poured libation to signify the commencement of the construction of the Glang Irrigation Dam. Contract for the construction of the Dam was awarded to Grumah Twins company Limited.

Speaking to the Media, Assembly Member of the Dupari-Glang Electoral Area explained that the ritual prayers were performed to cast out any form of ill luck and demonic attack that will obstruct the activities of the contractor at the site.

He again noted that the brief albeit powerful ceremony gave them the opportunity to demonstrate to the contractor and the government of Ghana that the entire Electoral Area supports the construction of the dam. The dam, they said will positively impact the lives of the people of Glang and Wa East.

Hon. Attawu-llah mentioned that the construction of the dam will create jobs for a lot of the youth in Glang and their neighbouring communities such as Goripie, Dupari, Sawaba, especially during the dry seasons.

On his part, Project Manager of Grummah Twins Company Limited, Anthony Abubakar said the project will be executed within the time given stressing that, they will attach all seriousness to the execution of the project Mr. Abubakar pleaded with government to make funds available for the project as expected.

Background

It will be recalled that the District Chief Executive for the Wa East District Dr. Ewurah Suleman Kandia Mahama on Friday, November 19, 2021, handed over sites for the construction of two irrigation dams in Glang and Tuasa communities, all in the Wa East district of the Upper West Region. The two projects are part of Government of Ghana’s projects under the watch of the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority earmarked to be executed in the Upper West Region.

The Tuasa dam project was given to Akabi Limited whiles Grumah Twins Company Limited secured the Glang dam project.

The District Chief Executive for the Wa East District Dr. Ewurah Suleman Kandia Mahama during the handing over of the sites for the irrigation dams project to the contractors tasked them to deliver quality work according to the stated contract specifications to yield the intended benefits. He says anything sort of a shoddy work shall not be entertained by the district Assembly under his watch.
