Egypt 2-1 Morocco: Magical Sallah inspires Pharaohs to Semi-finals

Mohammed Sallah produced a wizardry showing as he scored a goal and provided an assist to propel Egypt to a comeback win over Morocco in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Liverpool forward caused dozens of nightmares to the Moroccan defense in the entirety of the game as he barely put a foot wrong.

Egypt ended the first half trailing by alone goal after Sofiane Boufal had opened the scoring from the penalty spot. The Pharaohs enjoyed a lion’s share of possession in that half but lacked the killer instinct to be able to draw level, with joy written on the faces of the Moroccans’ supporters.

The seven-time African champions came back into the game in the 53rd minute after Yaccine Bonnou’s save went straight to the left foot of Sallah who tapped the ball into the back of net to make 1-1.

Morocco nearly restored their lead in the 76th minute but like Ali Bardi produced a stunning save by parrying Aguerd’s towering header towards the woodwork. The Atlas Lions kept pushing and pushing for the winner but that proved elusive as the full ninety minutes ended one all.

Egypt became more threatening between the two sides, with their keep scarcely tested. In the 100th minute of extra time, the devilishly gifted Mohammed Sallah turned provider as he teed up Mahmoud Trezeguet who scored from close range to put their supporters into a state of frenzy.

The outcome means Egypt face off with hosts Cameroon who beat debutants Gambia 2-0 on Saturday.
