Some registrants of National Identification Cards in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have expressed worry over what they described as the unnecessary delays and frustrations that has bedevilled the registration process for the Ghana Card.

They shared these sentiments when A1 Radio visited the Ghana Revenue Office and The Ministry of Food and Agriculture centres in the Municipality where the registration processes are ongoing.

According to some of the patrons who spoke to A1 Radio, they have spent several weeks in their attempts to get their Ghana Cards but they have since not been successful. They said they are often directed by officials of the National Identification Authority officials to go come for numbers, return to their various activites and subsequently return to their respective centres to fill the form.

They are then asked to return on a later date to undergo the biometric registration process; a process they said could take weeks.

When A1 News visited the registration the centres, A registrant, Aberinga, not his real name, fumed “ I have been here several days but every time they come they give us numbers and ask us to go and come next time for the filling of the forms and until I have not still gotten the forms to fill”.

Another registrant added that, “I am a grain seller in the market and for the past few days I have not been able to make sales because I am always here to get registered but until now I have not done it yet because they will just choose their people and do it for them”.

Another registrant, Akolgo Ayine, not his real name, who feared he might not be able to access any public services due to the delay in registering the Ghana Card quizzed, “so what will become of me if I’m not able to register this Ghana Card it means my sim cards will be blocked or?”

They, therefore, appealed to officials of the National Identification Authority to expedite action to ensure the smooth running of the registration exercise.
