Patrick Anamoo, the Upper East Regional Secretary for the Coalition of NGOs in Health has said the Coalition is aware of the many stumbling blocks that thwarted government efforts to vaccinate some 20 million Ghanaians by December 2021.

Mr. Anamoo, speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, said the Coalition had done some extensive work and realised that people continue to remain adamant about taking the vaccines because they are still not sensitized enough, to the many benefits of full vaccination. He added that another major stumbling block was that many people had taken some the decision not to vaccinate because of their political leanings.

“We at the Coalition also took it upon ourselves to educate them but they keep asking critical questions. They ask that is politicians are not taking the vaccines, why should I do it? If they [the politicians and leaders] say we should observe protocols, why are they not observing protocols?”

“Leadership is not living up to the task. This is obvious everywhere you find yourself. This is seen in what happened at the Parliament House. People are raising critical issues They are asking what about that one? People are raising issues about opening up stadiums, going to watch football matches, funerals and so much more”.

“The citizenry is saying that government has to play by the rules,” he explained.

Mr. Anamoo while the situation is unfortunate, two wrongs do not make a right, thus the need for citizens to actively engage in the vaccination exercise while continuing to adhere to the health and safety protocols that were implemented at the onset of the disease in Ghana.

“This is a health issue. If they [the politicians] are not doing it right, you should do it right for your own health and safety,” he said.

Mr. Anamoo said the Coalition has on several levels engaged government stressing that “at least, they should play by the rules”.
