Gifty Damsongor, a Public Health Nurse at the Reproductive and Child Healthcare Unit of the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga has advised ladies to stop the use of vaginal tightening creams, gel or lotions. She said the use of such products could cause cervical cancer.

Madam Damsongor, speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, said the use of vaginal tightening products by, particularly young ladies had become rampant across the country. She explained that in their attempt to enhance their sexual lives and sometimes on the behest of their partners, ladies purchase all sorts of ‘health products’ without realizing the devastating effects the products could have on them.

“These products do not help the body. They actually make you prone to a lot of diseases. Once you think there is a problem with you and you need a solution, visit the health professionals, they will guide you,” he stressed.

Madam Damosongor who was educating the public on cervical cancer also warned women against having multiple sexual partners. She explained that having multiple sexual partners could increase ones risk of contracting the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) which could later develop into cervical cancer.

She also advised women to eat balanced diets and exercise regularly to avoid the risk of contracting cervical cancer and some other diseases.
