Football though will forever be seen as a game of passion, a game that enacts unity and gives hope for the weak in society, in the Upper East Region the story is different.
The continued failed promises by successive governments to construct conducive sports arenas in the region have compelled many youths including parents to see the activity as a waste of time.
But with a pledge to reenact the modification of football in the Binduri District, Hon. Abanga Abdulai, a member of Parliament has commissioned the construction of an ultra-modern astroturf pitch in the area.
The initiative according to MP aimed at re-establishing the lost joy of football amongst the locals as well as developing unity.
The MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Works and Housing spoke to A1radioonline.com, after a short ceremony held in Sarabogo community in Binduri, said the pitch if completed will also engage the youth more in sporting activities.
“Our almost collapsed division leagues will re-germinate if this pitch is completed. We deserve better and this is one of the national cake we are getting”, he added.
The project supported by Ghana Gas is expected to be completed in August 2022, a during of four to six months.
The pitch per the contract document if completed will be used for both day and night sporting activities; hence tagged as one of its kind in the region.
Nana Antwi of Best construction limited, a firm tasked to construct the pitch also assured that the pitch will be available for use in the given period.
Pleased by the initiative, parents, youth and some local authorities in the area, however, called on the contractor to be devoid of shoddy works and focus on delivering to the people.
They also plead on the contractor to engage some of the youth for communal purposes.
