Assembly Member for the Vea Electoral Area, Robert Ayariga Atanga as well as the Assembly Member for the Yariga Electoral Area, Ayine Justice Atibesiko are optimistic that after the extensive rehabilitation of the Vea Irrigation Dam, more jobs will be created for the teeming unemployed youth in the area.
It could be recalled that communities along the Vea irrigational dam over the years have made several demands for the rehabilitation of the dam and other ancillary facilities in order to enhance the production of food and other activities in the area.
On 3rd March 2022, the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu together with the Bongo District Chief Executive, Rita Atanga handed over the rehabilitation of the canals of the dam to a contractor who is expected to commence work soon.
But speaking to David Azure on Agric forum on A1 Radio, the Assembly Members for both Vea and Yariga whose Electoral Areas are among the communities benefiting from the dam for their farming activities are convinced that after the rehabilitation work most of the residents especially the youth along the dam and beyond will venture into farming.
According to the two assembly members, many farmers, especially the youth, left farming due to the deteriorated nature of the canals which made it difficult for them to get water into their various farmlands.
The assembly members used the opportunity to call on authorities and the contractor to quicken processes and complete the rehabilitation works within the stipulated period.
They also called on residents in communities within the Vea dam to be responsible in how they handle the facilities of the dam.
