The Bongo District office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has noted with concern that due to the lack of office space in the area, its electronic gadgets especially, computers and other sensitive devices are stored in the open.
The situation which has persisted for years has begun causing the centre dearly as some of its sensitive devices have begun developing minor problems and malfunctioning.
The District Manager, Mahammadu Seidu made this known in Bolgatanga at the 2021 Annual Performance Review Meeting.
The Manager who was sad about the development added that the situation does not only affect them greatly but impedes the realisation of their yearly targets.
“The year under review, we as workers were expecting to achieve a universal health coverage but we could not achieve that due to some of these challenges”, he said.
The 2021 Annual Performance Review aimed to highlight the performance of the scheme in the region and how workers and stakeholders can help perfect it towards achieving universal health coverage by 2030.
The region despite some of the challenges emerged as the third-best performer in membership mobilization across the country as it was able to mobilize 955,010 members representing 73% of the regional population.
The Acting Manager of the NHIA in the region, Kasimu Abdulai mentioned inadequate accommodation as part of the key challenges facing them.
Mr Abdullai said “various districts are challenged with very limited office space to allow for effective work. The Builsa and Bongo district offices are the most affected areas. In the Builsa District for instance is running its activities under a rented container in Sandema. We are in need of support for space.”
