The issue of insufficient furniture in schools across the Upper East Region has hit the Navrongo Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana municipality leading to frustration among students and teachers.

According to the Assistant Head Master for Academics at the Navrongo Senior High School, Vincent Atarem, the inadequate furniture situation in the school is a major concern for both students and teachers.

This came to light when the 2002 year group of the school donate three (3) poly tanks to help deal with water shortage challenges in the School.

“I think our number one challenge today is that of furniture. My students here will testify to that, you will get to a classroom and two or three of them are sitting on one chair. We even make good use of the denning hall with long tables we have long benches that six students can sit on it. So when it comes to the writing of exams it is a big challenge,” he said.

Mr. Atarem said, if the situation is not addressed now, it will be worse if the first-year students start to report in the coming days.

The Boys Perfect of the school who spoke on behalf of the student body expressed worry over the situation. According to the Perfect Student, there have been fights for chairs for studies. He therefore called for the situation to be addressed in order for them to have effective teaching and learning.
