The Kassena Nankana West District Chief Executive, Atoagye Gerald has expressed worry over the recent happenings in his District. On Wednesday, a long articulated vehicle loaded with huge logs of rosewood collapsed the only bridge that linked the Navrongo Township and Sirigu, Mayoro and Natugnia communities.

According to Mr. Atoagye, it is worrying how simultaneously, his District has had to deal with various predicaments in recent times. He noted that the collapse of the bridge will have a great impact on residents of the district. This is because, teachers, health workers and traders may not able to crossover the valley to transact their daily businesses.

“We are actually devastated considering the quantum of work that will be lost, you can imagine Nurses not attending to patients in the CHPs compounds around there, it is a huge loss. Teachers who cannot go to the school to have contact hours with their kids, it’s a huge loss if you quantify that into monetary terms,” he stated.

Mr. Atoagye recounted that earlier last week, a rainstorm blew off the roof of a basic school injuring 11 pupils. The pupils, according to the District Chief Executive, have been treated and discharged.

“You will realise that my district has not been lucky at all. Within the twinkle of an eye, you can imagine the number of disasters that have faced, we were hit hard by a rainstorm two weeks ago and then English and Arabic school was blown off and portions of the block collapsed on the children but thank God they were treated and discharged”.
