Bawku dispute: Teachers on mass exodus; 100 file transfer requests

Education they say is key, but in the wake of the recent dispute in the Bawku area in the Upper East Region teaching and learning amongst pupils has become a matter of concern.

As regular attendance of the pupils has automatically been disrupted, deepthroat sources within the Ghana Education Service has revealed to A1 Radio that 100 teachers have sought transfer out of the District.

According to the source, the teachers are worried about their personal security and thus requested an urgent transfer to other districts within the region.

Confirming the sad development to A1radioonline.com, the source explained that the said teachers have every right to seek a transfer.

“It is their life they are afraid of, if you were to be the one won’t you be afraid of your life. So, I understand the angle they are coming from. But I will encourage that they should treat with caution as education is key to these innocent children”, he added.

According to him, the disturbances in the area will definitely put fear in people, especially those who teach there and never experienced such in their lifetime.

He however encouraged teachers, especially those staying there be cautious as well as be strong to deliver in their mandate as educating the young ones helps in building a good future for the region.

Meanwhile, some reports also have it that some health workers were also demanding transfer as a result of the dispute.
