Politics is a matter of service – Stephen Yakubu

Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister has parried off comments that suggest that politics is an avenue to amass wealth. Mr. Yakubu was of the opinion that politics should be centred around a selfless dedication to improving lives and societies.

Mr. Yakubu shared these sentiments when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

“Politics, the way I understand it, is to serve. Serving is a very sacred word to me. You come [to office], have the resources and use these resources to help move people up the social ladder. If you understand politics that way, it should not be some kind of money-making venture”.

“For example, as I came to the Upper East Region, I have always been drumming that let us do these things [development goals] together. That means that all of us will turn ourselves into politicians to be involved,” he said.

The Regional Minister said that it is incumbent on the people of the region to eschew politics of divisions and self-centeredness as those would thwart attempts at developing the Upper East Region.

“Upper Easterners, here we are, our region is poor. I have gone round I have been even complaining about the output. Why don’t we come together and serve our people? That is what I am pleading for,” he said.
