The People’s National Convention (PNC), is proposing the introduction of an allowance for all single mothers in the country.

The party wants the Executive and Parliament to urgently enact legislation for the payment of the said allowance.

“It is our call to the executive arm of the government and the legislature to emulate best practices elsewhere and enact laws to provide some form of allowances to these single mothers,”

This was contained in a release from the PNC to mark this year’s Mother’s Day celebration yesterday, 8th May, 2022 signed by Janet Asana Nabila and copied to A1News.

The PNC, whiles celebrating the achievements of some of the country’s women on the occasion, expressed concern about “the increasing rate of single parenting in recent times especially mothers who are singlehandedly caring for their children whereas the fathers are absent”.

The PNC is also asking the government to enforce laws against fathers who shirk their parental responsibilities.

The statement also noted that the future PNC government will ensure all concerns of women especially single mothers will be addressed in order for them to have a better life in the country.
