The newly elected Deputy Secretary of the Talensi Constituency under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Thomas Yaab Naoh has admonished Municipal and District Assemblies in the Upper East region to ensure the taxes they receive are used for the benefit of the people.

Mr. Naoh who is popularly known as Citizen Thomas said, in as much as it is expected of residents to honour their tax obligation, it is expected for the assemblies to judiciously utilize the revenues they generate in meeting the developmental needs of the citizens.

“As a communicator for a party in power, I think that it is good for Assemblies to look for measures to generate revenues. We should try and see how we will be able to tax the people and use the money very well so that the communities will be able to benefit.”

“At least our mothers and sisters who always go and take part in voting on elections day need water, they need is electricity, health facilities and all the other social amenities so after taxing them these are some of the things they want to see in their communities,” he said.

The comments of the outspoken communicator come on the back of comments by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development Dan Botwe who urged MMDAs to deploy strategies that can help boost local economies in the country.

Citizen Thomas also noted that people at the local level will never appreciate the efforts of the government if the various Assemblies have not been able to generate revenue in their own ways in order to provide the people with basic needs.
