The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia has expressed a strong conviction that majority of the country’s woes could be blamed on the uncharacteristically-abysmal performance of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

He said the Minister, Mr Ofori Atta has little knowledge and is not well versed in the area of economic management and as such, his ineptitude has become one of public concern.

In lieu of that, the legislator, Mr Tangombu Chiragia mentioned that, if he were the Finance Minister, he would have resigned as Finance Minister to save the country from a disastrous end.

He made the known on the Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio.

Mr Tangombu’s comment comes on the back of the 18 year high inflation as presented by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

He said, “look, where we are, there is no crossroad for us. As I said the other time, our problem is the exchange rate and fuel prices. If the government can solve these two, then, Ghanaians can begin seeing the light of the day. So, as I will always say, if I was this Finance Minister, I will honourable resign and apologize to Ghanaians and the government for my failed management of the economy.”

The rise in the inflation rate for April 2022, according to the Ghana Statistical Service is the highest rate recorded since its rebased on the Consumer Price Index in August 2019.

It also noted that this is the first time in 29 months that inflation for imported items exceeded domestic inflation. Whilst inflation for locally produced items was 23.0%, inflation for imported items was 24.7%.
