An aspirant for the Upper East Regional NPP Chairmanship race, Engineer Filson Apambila Awankua says his passion for engineering started early but was constrained by Bolgatanga Senior High School (BigBoss).

This was because the school at that time did not have sufficient teachers in the science class.

Ing. Awankua made this comment when he appeared on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show on Friday, May 12, 2022.

“I remember in 1991 when I went to BIGBOSS my interest was high in combining physics, mathematics and that of chemistry, but when the school authorities realized that we were only six or seven us who are interested in elective mathematics they felt that no they wouldn’t have a teacher for us, so we were all move to biology.”

He said students who were interested in pursuing engineering were not motivated enough to pursue the profession.

“We were all compelled to read biology, chemistry and physics, so we those who have high interest in pursuing engineering, we were not really motivated enough.”

Ing. Awankua revealed that his maternal uncle who was then the Upper East Regional Quantity Surveyor took him to Takoradi Polytechnic to study construction management.

He described himself as a successful engineer.
