In many years to come, the story of FC TANGA will be told, as being the first Club in recent time, in the Upper East region, to qualify from Division three through Division two to Division One, unbeaten. FC TANGA convincingly, beat their “supposed stopper” Japan Stars 2:0, in the last Top 4 League match.

After days of uncertainties over the venue and day, the deciding match between FC TANGA and Japan Stars finally came on, on Tuesday September 22, at the Bawku Town Park.

It was one of the two last matches in the Upper East Regional Top 4 League, which was meant to choose a Regional Division Two Champion and elevate a Club to Division One. The other match between Wonderful Stars and Gbimsi Star scheduled for the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium did not come on.

Large numbers of supporters in commercial buses, private vehicles and motors travelled from Bolgatanga on the dangerous Bawku-Bolgatanga road to cheer the players up to victory.

First half of the match did not produce a goal and that could largely be attributed to the bad nature of the park which the players were not familiar with.

In the second, FC TANGA had a penalty after its Deputy Captain; Iddrisu Seidu was brought down in the 18 area and he successfully found the net for his Club on the 47th minute of the match.

Haven studied the nature of the park and adapted to it, the Tanga boy started mounting pressure on the Japan Stars and kept them in their half of the park for long, which resulted in a second goal for FC TANGA on the 77th minute through Iddrisu Seidu. That goal was Seidu’s 4th personal goal in the Div. 2.

At that moment, it was all joy for supporters, knowing that FC TANGA had qualified for the National Division One league, the FA League and has set a record in the Upper East region and probably Northern Ghana, which may take years to equalize or break.

Present at the Bawku Town Park were Officials of the Regional Football Association (RFA) led by its Chairman, Salifu Shaibu Ziba. A traditional Ruler, Paul Agoo aka Chief Bombiga and some other dignitaries also witnessed the match. FC TANGA’s Best Player Award went to Iddrisu Seidu.

Abula Francis who just returned from the National U-17 Camp and Shadrack Adombila were fantastic to watch in the Midfield. Bernard Hafiz and Mandela Azeko were up and delivering the opportunities from the wings. Osman Bashiru aka Korea and Sulemana Shaibu aka Yeboah were strong pillars at the defence, while Senior Goalkeeper, Dickson Asipola was very alert in the post, saving even deflected balls. The Striking force led by Sulemana Jamal and Deputy Captain, Iddrisu Seidu were just merciless, as they fired from all angles towards the Japan Stars post.

All in all, the playing body and Technical Team of FC TANGA, from Bolgatanga were just too much for the Japan Stars from Paga to handle on that day.
