The Municipal Chief Executive for the Bolgatanga Municipality, Rex Asanga has suggested that regional capital towns should be given a special allocation of funds from the government.

He made the statement on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper Show with Mark Smith.

He said that while the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has the potential to raise more than Ghc2 million, the commitments the Assembly have to undertake quickly erode the gains made.

The MCE was making comments about revenue mobilisation within the Municipality.

“I have always held the view and still hold the view that Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has a huge potential of rising revenue.”

“I thought that being a regional capital government would have had special allocations for regional capitals. Honestly, the challenges we are facing others, others don’t face it,” he said.

Mr Asanga bemoaned the lack of commitment in the payment of revenue by business operatives for development. He added that the assembly will be employing strategies to bring on board as many businesses and individuals as possible to increase revenue.

“It is difficult to rope in all the businesses and all those who should be paying something to assembly for developmental purposes. Honestly, we need the money to develop and I think that when you walk around in the municipality you will see the huge, huge challenges we face as a municipality,”
