Dr. Moses Atinga, a contender for the New Patriotic Party’s Upper East Regional Chairman position says the NPP’s management of the economy has been fantastic and unparalleled compared to other governments in recent political times.

Speaking on A1Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, May 20, 2022, Dr Atinga said the NPP took over an economy that was almost in a comatose state from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2017.

“The performance of this government has been fantastic and that is unparalleled to any other government. This government upon assuming power in 2017 inherited an economy that was almost in a comatose state. It took the skilful hands of his Excellency President Nana Akufo Addo and his team to resuscitate this economy up to 2020 when Covid struck us. That was a global disaster and that really took us back until recently when the Ukraine-Russia war came in with its repercussions. That is why we are facing a certain level of negativity within the country. But all in all, I think the managers of the economy have lived up to expectation,” he said.

He spoke about the various roles he played in the party before coming into the chairmanship race.

“I started as a polling station chairman and became a Zonal Coordinator [not specified in the party’s constitution]. I became a Constituency Treasurer for four years, secretary for eight years. In fact, I’ve done 12 years as a constituency executive for this party in the Bongo constituency where I come from. I came up to the region in 2018 to contest for Regional First Vice Chairman. By the grace of the Almighty God, the good delegates of this region gave me an emphatic victory and from 2018 up till now, I’m the current First Vice Chairman of the party. I’ve done 16 years as an executive from 2005 up to date.”

Dr Atinga, confident of victory in the May 27, election said, “I am very optimistic that by the grace of Almighty God, 27th of this month, next week Friday they (delegates) will speak in very clear language by giving me the victory.”
