A coalition of pressure groups in the Upper East Region will tomorrow, 9th October, hit the streets of the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga to register their displeasure against the state of road networks in the Region.

The groups to embark on this demonstration are, BONABOTO, Northern patriots in research and advocacy (NORPRA), Upper East youth association (UEYA) and the Zongo youth.

It could be remembered that a coalition of pressure groups on September 29th gave the government an ultimatum to start fixing the Upper East Regional roads by October 5 or suffer their wrath.

Speaking to Azongo Albert on A1radio’s Day Break Upper East, PRO for Bonaboto, one of the pressure groups, Stanley Abopam said the demonstration was necessary because their appeals for roads in the region to be fixed have fallen on deaf ears.

He explained that the various pressure groups have exhausted all avenues they need to consult to get the roads fixed but nothing have since been done about the bad roads hence the need to hit the streets to register their displeasure.

He mentioned that, the Region has had leadership failures over the years because although the region has members of Parliament who double as ministers of state, they have failed to lobby for the roads to be fixed like other members of parliament and ministers have done in their Region.

“We have had leadership failure over the years. We have our members of parliament who double as ministers but they have remained dormant over the years fighting to serve their own interest. Look at Wa, they have leaders like we have but they have been able to fix their roads.”

Demonstrators are to converge at the ST John’s Park at 8:00am where they will connect to the library, stadium, Soe and Bukere roads before they submit their petition to the Regional Minister at his office.
