Communicators’ strike: Calls for consultation smacks of self-aggrandisement – Elvis Awonekai to communicators

Elvis Awonekai, the Upper East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling out the striking executives for exhibiting an over-the-top attitude and a show of self-aggrandisement.

He reminded the striking communicators that it may not be in their place to suggest that there must be a consultation before the appointment of a Regional Communications Director can be made.

The was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Awonekai and copied to the General Secretary of the Party John Boadu, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu, Deputy National Communications Director Kofi Agyapong and Deputy National Communications Director in charge of the Northern Zone Haruna Mohammed and sighted by a1radioonline.com.

“All appointments shall be made to reflect the diversity and national character of the party. In the matter of this appointment, our simple response is that like all the other appointments we displayed consensus building in the appointments taking cognizance of all democratic principles at our disposal. We do not want to say that the phase employed to describe the appointment is actuated by malice and sheer bitterness to water down a carefully considered decision.”

“The party has the Regional Women’s Wing, the Youth Wing, the Nasara Wing and the Research and Election Team, Finance Committee among others. None of these groups has complained of or sought to be consulted separately before the appointment of the deputies/officers concerned. It is a smack of over-the-top attitude and self-aggrandisement for the petitioners to expect to be consulted in the execution of our constitutional function in consultation with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of which we are solely accountable.”

“The petitioners’ paragraph 6 is at best based on rumours, lies and misrepresentation. The least expected of the petitioners would have been to find out the truth behind the allegation from us. Indeed as has been accentuated earlier, some among the petitioners lobbied for the position as individual and none ever made the point that consultation be done with the Team as a body.”

“By the paragraph 7 and 8 of the petition, the petitioners are seeking to feed fat on the lies, rumours and speculations engineered perhaps by them to make a case against us. Put it in another way, the petitioners action can be interpreted to mean that their preferred candidates in the Regional Executive Elections having lost, the petition is being used as a weapon to castigate us; the regional executives whom the delegates reposed their confidence in. Truth be told no one or group of people have the divine right to be appointed into any position,” portions of the statement read.
