In the coming days, there will be a public statement by the MP for Navrongo Central on the state of the Navrongo Sports Stadium. The statement would also detail the MP’s efforts to get the stadium quickly finished.

This came to light when the MP spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

“Like I promised, I have been following up on this issue. I think the problem has to do with the contractor and the Ministry [of Youth and Sports]. The earlier contract included the 1st phase, 2nd phase and then the wall. I am even trying to put a statement together.”

“If you look at it, the monies may have been spent. I am not sure, but it is what I want to confirm. It looks like monies have been spent in the name of the stadium, meanwhile, the job is not done. But when I contacted the Minister the other time, what he told me was that they were looking for money to go and complete it, but if the contractor can get money somewhere, they can give him an assurance letter to back him up so they can complete the job.”

Mr. Tangombu continued to say “when I contacted the contractor, the story was different. It looks like there is some misunderstanding between the Ministry and the contractor and that has led us to where we are today. I am trying to file my statement again and see what will happen.”

It would be recalled that the CEO of Kassena Nankana Utd, Cherry Azanlerigo Mboma, speaking on Sports Chat on A1 Radio when asked about the state of the Navrongo Multipurpose stadium said, “the story hasn’t changed, it’s still the same story and more to the point the stadium is still locked up and upon listening to the deputy youth and sports minister on Kessben TV some days ago and per what he said, the completion of the Navrongo Multi-purpose stadium is not coming anytime soon.”

He made it clear that the government is fully aware of the Navrongo Multi-purpose stadium and is doing its best to raise some money to complete the stadium. Therefore the Navrongo stadium is out of their reach for use this year.

Mboma added that as Management, they have given out the team as an investment package to partners to come in, knowing very well that the team cannot play here in the Region, there are a series of partners who are coming on board that will take charge of the affairs of the team, and for that matter, the team is moving outside the Region. The partners are ready to invest in the team but they cannot play in the Region.
