The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia speaking at the Accra Business School explained that the Ghana Card had gained approval from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as an international passport in hundreds of airports globally.

But a Deputy Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC in the Upper East Region, Kasper Kampoli Sunday described the Vice president’s comments regarding the approval of the Ghana card by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as untrue. He explained that the Vice President has lost his sense of leadership and appears to be peddling falsehoods whenever he gets the opportunity to address the Ghanaian public.

He argued, “the biometric models that we use to identify people is not a superior document to our passports. We have been using passports before Ghana Cards and the passport is internationally recognized. He [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia] lied that the International Civil Aviation Organization accepted the Ghana Card as a travel document. His Foreign affairs Minister was hauled before Parliament and they asked her, has ICAO certified our Ghana card as a travelling biometric passport? She said No.”

“Why should the Vice President [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia] be doing this to himself? Has he lost everything about good faith? Has he lost everything about rights? Has he lost everything about good governance that when he wakes up it’s all about rhetoric, just about lies, lies, lies? Why? What is that? His own people are exposing him,” he said when he spoke on A1 Radio.

According to Mr. Kampoli, the Vice President has lost everything in terms of credibility and intellectual capabilities and therefore cannot be taken seriously.

He added that Mr. Bawumia should shift his energy to look at how to solve the current challenges that the country is faced with rather than “jumping on everything” that has to do with digitalization.

Mr. Kampoli stressed that Ghanaians are discerning and will commend the vice President when there is a need but not when he goes around touting himself as a digital man.
