The Member of Parliament for Nabdam in the Upper East Region, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane is worried about the current inability and or disinterest in completing the health infrastructure that began under the erstwhile John Mahama administration.

He made this comment on the back of former President John Mahama’s call to the President to prioritize the completion of abandoned health infrastructure.

It would be recalled that former President John Dramani Mahama bemoaned the government’s abandoning of health facilities established by his administration.

Mr. Mahama was speaking at the inauguration of a maternity and children’s ward built and equipped to mark his 30th marriage anniversary with former first lady, Lordina Mahama.

While calling on the government to complete abandoned health facilities, the former President also called for the completed ones to be operationalized.

“One of the heartbreaking developments for me as a politician has been the number of health facilities commenced by previous administrations that have been abandoned. I use this occasion to encourage the government and the President to stop this waste of our taxpayers’ money and take urgent steps to complete these hospitals.”

Dr. Nawaane explained that the former President’s call was one in the right direction.

“The comments of the former President is in line with what we in the Minority have been saying in Parliament, and have been fighting for in Parliament. We have got a good number of hospitals that have been started by the previous government. They are more than 6 years now and they are still uncompleted.”

“Some of them [the hospitals], if you go there today, the whole place is weedy and it appears that they have abandoned them. In our region, one of them [the abandoned hospital] is at Garu.”

“I am afraid that they would finish their tenure of office; that is 8 years, and that hospital would remain uncompleted te government that I hope would be the NDC government would come to take over again and complete that project,” he said.
