Farmers in Upper East Region struggle to keep up with high fertilizer prices

The Upper East Regional crop officer, Henry Ayamga has stated that there is enough supply of fertilizers in the region but farmers are unable to buy them due to high prices.

“We believe that there is so much fertilizer in the market. The only problem is the price. The prices are quite high and so because of that, farmers are not able to purchase.”

He said there are other fertilizers at moderate prices that farmers can buy and encouraged farmers in the region to take advantage of that.

“Luckily enough, we have other fertilizers farmers can take advantage of which are moderately priced. We have the organic fertilizers, so they can purchase that one to supplement whatever they’ll be buying from the inorganics.”

He continued that the high cost of fertilizer has “some rippling effect on production. But at the moment we all know the situation that we’re in; a lot of prices are so high but we just have to manage them like that.”

He however encouraged people who see farming as a business to invest in it despite the high cost of production.
