President Akufo-Addo has mentioned that the government is doing a lot to secure the environment from the damage of illegal mining.

He said the fight against galamsey cannot be realistically won overnight and would continue across the country including the Upper East Region.

He said this when he spoke on GBC URA RADIO in Bolgatanga today, August 5, 2022.

“A lot of work is being done. If you listened to this new dynamic young Minister for Land and Natural Resources about the various plans his ministry and the Minerals Commission are putting in place to secure our environment against this galamsey menace.”

He continued to say that “this is not a fight that we end overnight. We have to be realistic about that. But we must persist; we can’t backtrack on it no matter what the difficulties are.”

“Many of the issues have to do with finding jobs for young people et cetera but that fight has to continue because of the damage to our environment, both our land as well as our water resources over a period of time if we don’t bring this matter under control will be catastrophic,” the President added.
