The Sandema Municipal Hospital is in dire need of renovation to ensure the continuous delivery of quality healthcare.

The hospital can’t boast of undergoing any significant renovation since its establishment. This situation poses a great risk to the patients and medical staff.

At the main entrance to the hospital, one is met with huge cracks in the decking. These cracks also have exposed the iron rods which are rusted. The paint job on the parts of the building has come undone.

Some of the clients who spoke to A1 Radio’s Gerard Asagi were worried about the situation but said they had no option but to visit the facility for essential health services.

A client who gave her name as Rhoda said it was worrying to see the hospital in that shape.

“I see them whenever I come here but what can I do? The hospital is not supposed to be like this. I am appealing to the government and people who can help to come.”(Translated from native language)

Richard Asam, a Public Health Officer with the hospital said the facility needed total rehabilitation. He thus described the working situation as one that is difficult.

“Looking at the dilapidated nature of our facility, it needs total renovation and it’s difficult.”
