The Vice-Chancellor for the Bolgatanga Technical University, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa has reiterated his commitment to repositioning the tertiary institution to become a world-class institution that helps address the needs of the region.

Speaking in a recent interview with A1 Radio’s Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith, Professor Alnaa explained that one of the ways he is doing this is by ensuring the accelerated development of the staff at the university.

“For BTU, we have a mandate as a technical or TVET institution. Now, technology drives the world. What we are doing is, with the little resources that we have, we will make sure that we implement our mandate. This can only be achieved if we have an accelerated staff development.”

“We are making sure that all our lecturers attain a Ph.D status. They must be research oriented to be able to help. Secondly, we are channelling the resources towards development. Rather than do other things, and at the end of the day come out with theory-based students, we have to give more attention to the TVET sector,” he said.

Professor Alnaa added that “what we are basically doing is to implement our mandate. We are making sure we have all the necessary skills that we need to be able to implement our mandate.”

In lieu of that, Professor Alnaa appealed to the government to adequately fund the institution.
