The youth are being called upon to promote their mother tongue. The mother tongue, according to the Bible Society of Ghana and the Swedish Bible Society, makes people stand out.

Sofia Hargemark, the Programmes Manager of the Swedish Mission Council, made the call in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital, at an event to mark the 2022 International Literacy Celebration.

The Programme Officer of the Bible Society of Ghana, William Ansere explained that as part of efforts to promote the use of indigenous languages, the Bible Society of Ghana has successfully translated the English New Testament Bible to Gurune and currently working on the translation of the Old Testament books.

“We have completed translating the New Testament to Gurune and currently working on translating the Old Testament book.”

The activities of the Bible Society of Ghana are to help improve literacy in the mother tongue.

“We call on all and sundry, especially stakeholders who have the opportunity to join and participate in promoting the literacy programs we are rolling out at the various communities.”
