The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has hinted that it will establish the first-ever psychiatric hospital in Bolgatanga; the Upper East Regional capital.
The Bolgatanga Area Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Manfred Wedam disclosed this when the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Rex Asanga paid a courtesy on the Presby Church in Bolgatanga. The MCE’s tour was to court support of religious leaders towards the development of the Upper East Region.
Whiles highlighting some of the achievements of the church in the municipality and the region as a whole, Rev. Wedam hinted that in less than a month, the church will inaugurate the hospital in the Bolgatanga municipality.
The facility has been put up to help address mental health conditions in the region and beyond.
“When it comes to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, I believe this is the right time for you to come because we have so many investments in Bolga in particular. We are opening the very first Psychiatric hospital in northern Ghana. It will be in Bolgatanga, to be specific. You may be hearing about it for the first time. On the 10th of October, our big man; our moderator, will come from Accra to dedicate it.”
Rev. Said there’s a specialist who will be in charge of the hospital thus there would be no need to take Psychiatric cases out of the region.
“We have a specialist now. We would not send any psychiatric issues to tamale or anywhere. You just bring it there. We have put up a structure that will house those who need to be hospitalized.”
