The Assembly Member of the Navio Electoral Area in the Kassena-Nankana West of the Upper East Region Roland Apugibo is calling for an immediate construction of their steel bridge that broke down in March this year.

Speaking to William Jalulah on the Reporters Visit Show on A1 Radio, Mr. Apugibo said the road is an important road that passes that connects the community to Burkina Faso. Since the bridge collapsed, community members have been negatively affected.

According to Assemblyman, the collapse of the bridge has affected community members in all sectors of life. They have since been stranded due to lack of an alternative road to access nearby communities.

“Students, workers, who cross the bridge; businessmen and women, farmers [have become stranded]. So many opportunities have been missed this year. Farmers who, from the centre of Navio, go outside their farms and send their animals out there couldn’t do not do that this year.”

“I am told someone was trying to take his animals across and unfortunately lost five of them. We don’t want to talk about businesses. We don’t want to talk about how people suffer to cross. Students who are in the Paga Senior High School which is a day school normally, they will have to come to class from home but they can’t come.”

Mr. Roland Apugibo said his outfit has been following up for the reconstruction of the steel bridge but the assurance he kept getting from authorities, particularly the District chief Executive, is that the bridge will be reconstructed very soon.
