General Secretary hopeful in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) elections, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, is optimistic about becoming the next General Secretary of the party.
Dr Otokunor who is currently the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, expressed that there’s no way anyone can beat him in the upcoming contest.
He was speaking on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1Radio.
“The people of this country cannot afford to miss an NDC government in 2024. Everybody is looking up to us, so the question is what we are doing as a party and that is where my leadership comes in. The leadership that’ll deliver the results in 2024; indeed, if you look at my service to this party it’s unquestioned. My sacrifices I’ve made for this party, I’ve committed almost all my youthful years to the service of the party.”
Dr Otokunor stated that he was identified by Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings while in school and he has worked with the best minds in the NDC.
“And I have learned and gotten impacted by their knowledge and skills and so when it comes to capacity in party management, I don’t think anybody who’s thinking of contesting me has that,” he added.
“I was fortunate to serve under the greatest General Secretary the continent has ever had. General Mosquito has served in that office for 17 years. He has become a measuring instrument for what a General Secretary should be. I was fortunate to serve under him and was significantly impacted. General Mosquito showed direct interest in my political growth. I didn’t know what was going to happen, but I think he prepared me for a greater task. And according to him, he thinks that I’m ready to do a great job. But the confidence he has in me is very significant, but not enough to become a General Secretary.
The most significant confidence I require is the confidence of the grass root, and the confidence of the grass root is also overwhelming, which makes me confident that there’s no way anybody can win me in this election. I’m the next General Secretary of the NDC. But it’ll not just come by fluke; you’ll have to work hard for it.”
According to Dr Otokunor, anybody who’s coming to contest the position of the General Secretary cannot in any way be a grass-roots person than him.
