A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Thomas Akurugu believes the chances of the party winning 2024 are bright. Mr. Akurugu was a parliamentary candidate for the People’s National Congress (PNC) for the Bolgatanga Constituency in the 2016 elections but defected to the NDC in the year 2022.

Considering the country’s current economic challenges and what he described as failed promises of the NPP government, Mr. Akurugu who has since become a staunch member of the NDC is optimistic that Ghanaians will give back power to the NDC in the next elections.

“Our chances are very bright because the NPP party has failed to deliver on its many campaign promises. Our cedi is now like paper. I used to drive my car from Accra to Bolga with Ghc450 fuel but today, I fill the same car with Ghc1,000 from Accra to Bolga. The suffering in this country is such that I cannot explain it. Everyone in this country is complaining including members of the NPP.”

Mr. Akurugu who was speaking to A1 Radio during the Bolgatanga Central constituency executives’ election cannot fathom why Ghanaians should renew the mandate of the NPP considering the dire economic difficulties Ghanaians are faced with.

“I don’t know what promises, I don’t know what the NPP will say when we start this election in 2024. For me, it is a foregone conclusion.”

Regardless, he entreats members of the NDC to be “committed and not complacent, even though all looks well for the NDC to winning the next election.”

Mr. Akurugu added that the NDC has competent men who can well manage the affairs of the country when given the mandate.
