“This is not peculiar to this government. The government has been doing well. Let’s be very frank, I am not saying this government has done very well but at least, we can credit this government for a very good job done,” Andrew Atarwini, a member of the NPP Upper East Regional Communication Team said of the performance of the Akufo-Addo led government in the face of the economic hardship in the country.

He said this when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Mr. Atariwini, speaking about the current exchange rate, stated that the President’s promise wasn’t to make 1 dollar equivalent to Ghc1.

“Let me put you right. He [the then flagbearer of the NPP] said that the team that created the 1$ – Ghc1 regime, Dr. Bawumia who was then the Running Mate, was part of that team and so that is why he is bringing him on board.”

The NPP communicator suggested that the President’s comment meant that the economy was to be managed properly and not necessarily make Ghc1 equivalent to $1.

“In effect, what he was saying was that he was going to manage the economy very well. He didn’t say that he was going to bring back the $1 – Ghc1,” he said.

While admitting that the cedi depreciated even before COVID-19 struck, Mr. Atariwini said, “Dr. Bawumia made a point and his argument has been that if the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate would expose you. When you do the analysis, unlike our brothers in the NDC when they were managing the economy, we were depreciating in every aspect of the economic aspects of the economic indicators.”
