The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga has called on youth in the municipality to strive for excellence in all their endeavours.
Addressing the youth at the launch of the Alikoto Festival held last Friday at Great Victory Academy, the MCE said it is not enough for one to be educated. To make an impact, Mr. Asanga suggested dedication to other activities outside of what they learnt in school.
The launch was hinged on the theme, “Getting Connected for Global Impact.”
He said, “getting connected for global impact comes with a cost of educating one’s self. It is incontestable that education brings the entire universe to your doorstep. The impact at the global stage cannot be greater than your level of education. By this, I do not mean knowledge received in the classroom, what I mean is a life dedicated to the acquisition of knowledge and skills whether in or out of the classroom.”
“It is my understanding that the largest portion of knowledge acquisition is received away from the formal instructor. Getting connected for global impact entails sacrificing one’s time, energy and effort towards mastery at your fields of study and training. Thus, become so good at what you do that even when the world does not like you, they cannot ignore your value. It also involves exposing yourself to the right kind of association and having meaningful collaboration first at your local communities and to get in touch with people who know what you don’t know.”
Speaking at the same event, the Acting Regional Director of Central for National culture, Miss Catherine Abass implored the youth to venture into the creative art industry not only as a hobby and entertainment but as an income generating venture.
Chief Executive officer of Ara Clothing, Abdul Rahim Ahmed admonished young people to take up training opportunities such as fashion design, carpentry and auto mechanics since this will give them income to pursue their dreams.
The Alikoto Festival seeks to bring students studying within the region and outside together to socialise and network. It also tends to create a network with successful people who will guide and mentor the students.
