SAMMO supports 964 girls in 14 schools in Upper East Region with sanitary pads

The Safe Menstruation Movement (SAMMO) in the year 2022 has provided over 964 sanitary pads to girls in 14 basic schools within the Upper East Region of Ghana this year. The beneficiary schools are Yipala JHS, Sherigu JHS, Nyariga Doone JHS, Nyariga Doone Primary, Nyariga DA JHS, Nyariga MA JHS, Methodist JHS, Methodist primary, DAZONGO JHS, Nabdam model Girls Daborin JHS, Naaga JHS, Awiisi JHS, and Abelzanga JHS.

SAMMO is a local non-profit organisation that comprises committed young men and women in the Upper East Region who are passionate about advocating and acting on behalf of young girls and women in the areas of Menstrual Health Rights and issues of access to menstrual products at a moderate prices in Ghana

SAMMO said this at its 2nd annual conference anchored on the agenda “Volunteering is Empathy in Action”. At the conference, Paul Nsobuno, President of SAMMO while sharing some of the success stories of the organisation mentioned that with the needed support and continued commitment from  members, the organisation would further its agenda.

He said “even in the face of this economic turbulence, members have been generous to donate and pay our dues. Let’s all be motivated by Margaret Mead who said never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. SAMMO is also grateful to our main sponsor the Blessing Basket Ghana project and its partners Ten by Three USA. God bless them for their continued support. The media has also been very supportive of our activities, bringing us to light all the time.”

Mr.  Nsobuno also said, “in the year 2023, if we get the needed resources, we intend  to Improve our mentorship session which we began. We also intend to introduce Church Outreaches in order to explore more and get the public well informed about our aim and mission, this and many  more we intend to improve and achieve our purposes.”

The Blessing Basket Project Ghana, an exporter of baskets, has been the biggest partner and sponsor of SAMMO’s activities. An Administrator at Blessing Basket Ghana, Aisha Mba who was a special Guest of Honour at the conference pledged her outfit’s commitment to continue working with SAMMO.

As  part of activities at SAMMO this year’s conference, awarded some of its hard working members with certificates. In addition the constitution of the organisation was reviewed and amended while new executives were elected to run the affairs of SAMMO.
