The people of the Buru-Navio Traditional area are calling on the government to, as a matter of urgency, rehabilitate two major dams within the area. If this is done, the people of the area, predominantly farmers, can expand their farms, increase production and household incomes.

The Assemblyman for the Navio-Electoral area, Roland Apugido made this appeal when he spoke at the 10th Anniversary celebration of the Overlord of the Buru-Navio Traditional Area, Navio Pio Pe Adams Kwarase Asongojem Parijei Adurigola II.

Mr. Apugido also appealed to the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization to address the telecommunication network challenges in the area. The current situation has been described as a security challenge.

“Madam chair, permit me again to mention some of the challenges we are facing as a community. The collapse of the steel bridge at Guguita is making life very difficult. The only mechanised borehole which was provided by the former MP has broken down long ago hence there’s no potable water at Navio. Our two dams are choked. They can’t keep water until February each year. Again, there is no single public toilet facility in the community. The E/A primary is the only school without a feeding programme in the north if not the entire district. The network service is very bad especially at night which I believe is a security threat. There is no electricity for the people of Navio. We are by this appealing to individuals, NGOs and the central government, through the DCE, to come support us.”

The Assemblyman for the Navio electoral area called on the residents of the area to support the development of the area. He spoke about the 10 year reign of the chief.

“I am honoured and grateful to be part of this joyous and memorable 10 anniversary celebration of our chief since his enskinment ten years ago. His reign has not been easy but with God, his hard work, determination and perseverance we are here today to mark his ten years as traditional ruler. As a leader in the community, he is always and ever ready to welcome anyone who wants the Navio community to develop.”

“I want to appeal to all the people of Navio to continue to be law abiding and remain calm as God is in absolute control. Let us all devote part of our time, energy and resources towards the development of our beloved community, the only community we have.”
