The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly is building a model junior high school for females under the direction of MCE Joseph Adongo (JHS). When completed, the school would serve as a symbol of the necessity for girl education in the community and offer admitted students a holistic education.
Mr. Adongo said this when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show in a recent interview. The construction of the school, to be named the Our Lady of Lourdes Model Girl JHS, forms part of the Assembly thoughts on driving education in the area.
“We have also, as an Assembly, decided to put up a girls’ model school. That is Our Lady of Lourdes Girls School. As at now, work in ongoing. We are going to put up a lab, with a projector and well furnished with computers. We are also work on the structure itself. We would want to make it the most enviable girls school in Navrongo where people would have to compete for it,” he said.
Preparations are far advanced to allow the school begin admission in the net academic year.
“We are having meetings on this. We want to start full swing next year,” he said.
Additionally, the MCE, Mr. Adongo restated his commitment to reducing to the barest minimum, the furniture deficit in the area.
“We have provided furniture, for now, over 400 dual desks. We have done the distribution. Now we have another 200 [desks] that have come and we are yet to do the distribution,” he said.
Additionally, the Assembly is focusing on providing adequate furniture for public basic schools in the Municipality.
“We’ve realised in our meetings that mostly we concentrate on the Senior High and Junior High [schools] leaving the basic level, kindergarten and all those things, so as an Assembly we agreed that we also need to build our foundation. We have had to procure these hexagonal desks for our kindergartens for them to be using,” he said.
Mr. Adongo added that under the guidance of the MP for Navrongo Central, Sampson Tangombu Chiragiaa, some 250 desks had been procured and distributed with 250 more in the offing.
