Meehiboug Youth Association (MYA),  a youth group located at Meehiboug, a suburb of Zanlerigu in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region,  has issued a rallying cry to members of the public to strive to support the association’s annual inter-community football gala competition.

The group made this plea during the awards ceremony of the thirteenth edition of the annual inter-community gala competition held  at the Gundork JHS park on Sunday. The group said the lack of  sponsorship for the competition has moved against the vision of the association to organise a more inclusive tournament.

“Mr. Chairman, we have always intended to organise a more inclusive and engaging football gala over the years but the lack of sponsors to our cause has hampered this idea from becoming a reality; we normally do this through our individual contributions over the years.”

“Mr. Chairman, we call on you, your abled high table members and the general public to guide us in getting sponsors for our annual football gala. We would be knocking at your door for your guidance in getting sponsors for our gala,” said Eric Dok Tambire. Mr. Tambire read the speech on behalf of the association’s president, Solomon Tarigbena.

Mr. Dok stated that the rationale behind the organisation of the yearly competition “was borne out of the need to team up as youth for unity and development”.

He intimated that the association has accomplished a tremendous success in that regard but the lack of sponsorship has impeded it (association) from realising its vision as the gala hub in the region.

This year’s competition which started on January 4 and ended on January 7 was the thirteenth edition; with twelve teams battling over supremacy.

Pelungu were crowned champions of the gala and  went home with two sets of jerseys, a football, a trophy and  GHC 500.00. The runner up was Tindongo United, a Damol-Tindongo based team and they were awarded a set of jerseys, GHC 300.00 and a ball. Kotintabig community was placed third and walked away with GHC 200.00.
