Ing Dr. Emmanuel Abeere-inga has donated a set of Jersey to Bolga East based Division Two side, Zuarungu FC.

The donation exercise took place at the team training grounds at the Agric Park on Saturday 4th February, 2023.

Ing. Dr. Abeere-inga, speaking to the media after the donation exercise, said he had been a key sponsor of the annual Bolga East football gala. He said that during his youthful years, he fell in love with football. He recounted watching a team of good players like Abuga Pele playing daily by his house in Bolga stadium. The team qualified for the first division but was denied its slot. The case had to be put before the GFA. Eventually, the team was banned, a situation he looks back on with pain to this day.

Ing. Dr. Emmanuel stated his interest in revitalizing football activities in northern Ghana; particularly in the Bolga East District.

The civil engineer, commenting on why there has been some unwillingness from sponsors to invest in football, said football clubs do not have structured fundraising teams. This means that club owners take care of the club themselves. He thus called for partnerships to ensure the sustainability of clubs.

“Upper East is the football talent of Ghana, the likes of the Ayew brothers and others  coming into football mean there is a genetic disposition to football and the need to grow it by involving outsiders who are interested, and when those who are within see the benefits, the local business people can equally get involved.” Ing. Dr. Emmanuel said.

Ing. Dr. Emmanuel stated his interest in conducting a 3-month research project that will explore the challenges with regard to football in the Upper East Region, with specific interest in funding and administration.

The President and Head Coach of Zuarungu FC, Philip Ayebire, expressed appreciation for the gesture after receiving the set of jerseys.

He said the donation to his team will go a long way to motivating the players, and he is sure this will be a turning point as they are currently taking part in the ongoing Upper East Regional Division Two League.

Mr. Ayebire spoke about the performance of the team and assured fans that the team would do the best it could to avoid relegation.
