The Upper East Regional Women Organiser for the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu, has called for equal representation of women in Ghanaian politics.
According to her, women understand and correspond to happenings, so they can be the best bet to fine-tune the country’s economy when given the chance at the governing structure.
“Let’s rise and take positions at our various constituencies, regions, and the national level. We understand what goes on in the family. We are the managers of the family and know what is best for all of us. So, imagine what we can do if we get to the governing structure. We can better take decisions that will not only benefit the few as we are seeing, but the entire nation. We can do it. Ladies, don’t look at or think of the insults the public may say about you.”
“Think of how you can bring that change to the country.”
Madam Yakubu was speaking at the handing over and swearing-in of some TEIN executives at the Saint John Boscos College of Education in Navrongo.
“Like I’m saying, look at the number of ladies here, only one lady has been elected as a TEIN executive. Why will it be so? If we sit here and say we don’t want to be part of politics or what is happening. Abi, we usually go to the market, tell me; can you take Ghc500 or GC1000 to the market to shop for a week or month under this government? No, so we have to be concerned about what is happening in the governing structure. So, ladies, don’t be afraid,;take leadership positions to better this country for all of us. And NDC is there for us, because the name Congress means everyone is welcome. Let’s join the NDC and bring Ghana back on track.”
She encouraged the students as well as women with interest in politics to call on her as her doors are always open to sharing ideas.
