Upper East Region scores lowest food inflation in Northern Ghana

The Upper East Region had the lowest food inflation rate of any of Northern Ghana’s five regions. This is according to the January 2023 Consumer Price Index (CPI) by the Ghana Statistical Service. 

According to the report, the Upper East Region recorded a food inflation rate of 38.1 percent. The Upper West Region recorded a rate of 59.4 percent while the Northern Region recorded a food inflation rate of 49.5. The Savannah Region and North East Region recorded food inflation rates of 55.1 and 58.8 percent respectively. 

The Upper East Region recorded a non-food inflation rate of 46.6 percent while the Upper West Region recorded a rate of 29.8 percent. The North East Region, Northern Region and Savannah Regions recorded non-food inflation rates of 44.6 percent, 39.6 percent and 55.2 percent respectively. 

Meanwhile, the overall inflation for the Upper East Region was 43.7 percent. 

Food inflation (0.437) was 61.0 percent for January 2023. Last month’s Food inflation was 59.7 percent.  Month-on-month Food inflation was 2.8 percent for January 2023 while Non-food Inflation (0.563) was 47.9 percent.  Last month’s Non-Food inflation was 49.9 percent while Month-on-month Non-Food inflation was 0.8 percent. Inflation for locally produced items was 50.0 percent while, inflation for imported items was 62.5 percent.
