The Bolgatanga East District in the Upper Region has secured the highest score in the sanitation sector of the 2021 District League Table (DLT) assessment in the region. The district was ranked 22nd nationally with a score of 96 out of 100.
The Builsa South District which followed closely ranked 40th, with a score of 92. Other districts with scores of 80 and above include; Bawku Municipal (86), Bongo District (86), Kassena Nankana Municipal (85) and Bawku West District (80).
The Builsa North District,Talensi District, Garu District and the Pusiga Districts were ranked as the least performing districts with scores below 80. They were ranked 130,175, 207 and 210 respectively in the Sanitation Sector.
The District League Table (DLT) is developed as a tool for tracking national development and highlighting MMDs that are doing well and those challenged in terms of wellbeing of their populations. The DLT has raised issues regarding quality-of-service delivery and disparities in wellbeing among the 261 MMDs. The bigger objective is generating action by Government and its MDAs towards ensuring better prioritisation and equitable resource allocation has not been fully achieved.
The DLT is to “enable Government gain better understanding of the status of wellbeing across the districts in the country. To provide the evidence and basis for more equitable resource allocation and social investment to reduce disparities between districts. To increase social accountability around service delivery between national/local government and citizens; and to improve state responsiveness in development and service delivery at the district level.
