Same old John Mahama? – Nabdam DCE questions JM’s presidential interest

The District Chief Executive for Nabdam, Madam Agnes Anamoo, cannot come to terms with what exactly former President John Dramani Mahama wants at the presidency now that he has again decided to contest to be elected president.

Mr. Mahama, who was vice president to the late President Evans Atta Mills, was sworn in on 24th July 2012 to take over the presidency following the death of his predecessor. He was then elected after the December 2012 general elections to serve as a full-time president.

Mr. Mahama again contested re-election for a second term in the 2016 election but lost to then-candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party, now president of Ghana.

On February 22nd, a leading member of the NDC, Professor Joshua Alabi picked nomination forms for former president John Dramani Mahama to contest the NDC presidential primaries in preparation to contest the 2024 election to become president again.

It is for this reason that the Nabdam DCE could not fathom what the former president wants again at the presidency.

“I have just heard that they mentioned that John Mahama will come back to power. And I said if they had mentioned a different person, I wouldn’t say anything. John Mahama has ended his tenure of office. He became a president, he was a vice president, what again is he looking for?”, she said.

Madam Agnes Anamoo was speaking during this year’s festival of the chief and people of Kotintaabig, a community under Sakote in the Nabdam district of the Upper East Region.

Madam Anamoo wondered what the former president would do differently since he is mandated to serve only 4 “when he said the NPP has not done well in its 8 years”

The Nabdam DCE gave a firm assurance that the NPP will break the 8-year rule “considering the policies and projects it has instituted across the country”.
