The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Upper East Region, embarked on a massive clean up exercise within the Bolgatanga township today.
The exercise, dubbed “Operation Clean Your Frontage,” is to commemorate this year’s Independence Day celebrations in the country.
The exercise started at Jubilee Park, through the main lorry station, the new market, and the old markets. The exercise in the early hours of Friday saw heavy participation from the organisers and traders.
According to the organisers, the constitution of Ghana requires that the citizens protect and contribute to the well-being of the environment and the communities in which they live.
“As citizens of Ghana, we are enjoined by Article 41(g) of the 1992 Constitution to contribute to the well-being of the community where we live. Article 41 (k) also tasks citizens with protecting and safeguarding the environment. Every Ghanaian, therefore, has a civic obligation to help protect and maintain a clean environment.”
