Friends of Bawumia (FOB), a youth group in the Chiana-Paga constituency of the Upper East Region, threatened that its members would leave the NPP if Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was not made the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2024 elections.
The group, which has a registered membership of 600, believes that the Vice President is the only candidate who can help the party achieve its ‘break the 8-year’ slogan.
Speaking to our reporter, the chairman of the group, Desmond Abire Ayambire, noted that some of the members were constituency executives and had done extensive work to realise that Dr. Bawumia was the only person who could help the party win the coming 2024 elections.
“We are not saying that the other candidates can’t represent the party, but Dr. Bawumia is best positioned to lead us to the promised land. Most of us are executives, and we are not sitting while saying this, we have done our homework and realised that he is the best for the party.”
However, former Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage, an ardent advocate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is not happy with the group’s plan. She indicated that the Vice President will win the upcoming election by votes rather than threats.
In a post reacting to the news published by this website, Madam Abayage asked whether the said members of the group were already seeking to leave the party.
“Were they already seeking to leave the party? I’m an ardent supporter of Bawumia and a strong follower of the BMW. But we must stop this attitude of coercing the party at will, especially from us in the Upper East Region.”
“This attitude of easily threatening to leave the party if our wants are not satisfied is completely disingenuous to us as a people and a party. See where we are today with this: I’ll leave, I won’t vote, I’ll spoil attitude.”
“Since the BMW, FOB, LLFB etc started, where in Ghana have they heard any group threatening to leave the party if Bawumia isn’t made the flag bearer? Or do they think their loyalty to the course surpasses others? They should please give us a break and redirect their energy into getting maximum votes for DMB in the Chiana-Paga Constituency.
That’s the way to win: not threats!,” she wrote.
