Selected industry stakeholders have raised objections to the decision to publicly present selected winners of the recently concluded Upper East Music Awards with their prizes while others were attended to separately.

Dr. Emmanuel Bortey Borketey, CEO of Charger Limited, was in the region over the Easter holidays and gave the incentives to some of the award scheme winners as part of his pledge.

Some worried industry participants questioned this, with some winners objecting to the entire decision.

CEO of Downtown Records, Roy Lambert, expressed disappointment with the development. He opined that the organisers should have had a presentation ceremony for all winners, not just selected ones.

“Happy Man Bitters is headline sponsor of the Upper East Music Awards, and so he should have invited all winners and presented their plaques to them, then also presented incentives he pledged to the other winners, but not to invite some winners, do the presentations, and then do the others behind closed doors.”

He also opined that the way winners are determined is by who has the most cash.

“This year’s edition is one of the best so far. 95% of the winners this year deserved it. But it seems that winning goes to the highest bidder. Awards should be given to hardworking persons and not the ones with plenty of cash.”

Roy Lambert is outspoken, especially with regards to the entertainment industry in the Upper East Region as a whole.
