Barakisu Iddrisu, the Green House Project Manager of Trax Ghana in the Upper East Region, has described greenhouse farming in the Upper East Region as being at an experimental stage. She made this statement when she engaged with Mark Smith on Green House Farming on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

According to her, there isn’t any publicly available literature backing greenhouse farming in the Upper East Region. Madam Iddrisu said it would take data from three to four cyclical farming seasons to understand GreenHouse farming practices in the region.

“As of now, maybe there isn’t any literature backing greenhouse farming here in the Upper East Region. Whatever we do now, we are starting, and as we are starting, we still have ups and downs because it is still an experiment. We are still trying to see how we can get literature on how to produce vegetables in the Upper East Region. Unless you do three or four years in a row before you can start comparing data.”

The Project Manager was quick to add that they made a good harvest from their first production and were hoping for the same in their second farming season which started.

“I think when we started trying, last year we had a very good harvest.”

The Green House Project under Trax Ghana is a programme that seeks to contribute to food security while offering opportunities for teenage girls to learn practical agricultural skills. The project is in its second year with funding support from partners Trax Norway and Engineers without Borders.
