The Billing and Revenue Protection Officer of VRA/NEDCo in the Upper East Region, Williams Asare, has reported that the company has retrieved Ghc2.2 million from customers during their initial operation last week. As part of the week-long exercise, the company disconnected 2,741 customers in the region.

Speaking at a media briefing at the company’s conference hall in Bolgatanga, Mr. Asare also stated that the company’s management had requested some debtors to sign payment agreements. “Last week we disconnected about 2,741 customers between Tuesday and Friday and were able to mobilise at least Ghc2,235,338.00. We also disconnected some major institutions, most of which have made part payment of their outstanding arrears. We have signed payment agreement terms with them, under which they will pay some amount to clear their outstanding balance.”

Mr. Asare further stated that some customers had made payments even before the company began the disconnection exercise. He urged customers in debt to take steps to pay the amounts owed or to come in and pay part or sign payment agreements towards paying their arrears.

He assured that the company’s management was prepared for the second phase of the exercise, and that they were determined to surpass last week’s achievement of Ghc2.2 million. “We don’t want to inconvenience them by disconnecting them, so we are poised for action this week. We hope to do better than last week and break the Ghc2.2 million we brought in.”
