The Upper East Regional Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Directorate has initiated plans towards establishing a model TVET Junior High School in the region. The move aims to create a platform that would help inspire young students to explore TVET courses, while also addressing the negative perception associated with TVET education.

According to the Deupty Regional TVET Director Mohammed Bukari, the TVET JHS would be built from scratch or repurposed from an existing JHS. Mr. Bukari emphasized the importance of such a school in providing students with a conducive environment to acquire practical skills that would enhance their employability prospects.

“The establishment of the model TVET JHS would help change the perception of people towards TVET education, and encourage students to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that come with vocational training,” he said when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show with Mark Smith today, Thursday, April 27, 2023.

The TVET Director also revealed that the initiative is in line with the government’s commitment to revamping TVET education in the country, as it seeks to address the skills gap in the labor market. It is expected that the model TVET JHS would serve as a prototype for similar institutions in the region, and ultimately, the country as a whole.
